73% of people still receive spam messages and calls despite the MDN option of TRAI

|

Despite opting for DND’s services from TRAI, 74% of people still receive spam messages and calls, according to a new survey by Local Circles. Notably, Do Not Disturb (DND) is designed to help users with spam messages and calls.

TRAI rules for spam messages and calls

The survey was conducted among more than 35,000 citizens in 324 districts. In fact, the survey found that 73% of users receive more than four messages per day. The regulation of annoying calls and messages has been handled by the Telecom Regulatory of India. In fact, TRAI has suggested penalizing pesky callers up to Rs. 10,000 per violation.

“Despite being on the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) ‘Do Not Disturb’ list, 74% of citizens at the time said they were still receiving unwanted text messages.” , indicates the survey.

DoT suggests fine for senders of fraudulent messages

The investigation comes shortly after the Telecommunications Ministry also suggested a fine for senders who send fraudulent messages to users. In addition, the ministry plans to disconnect the connection of these companies from these senders. According to the ministry, any sender who sends messages with the wrong header will be fined.

“The platform will also provide the DoT, Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA), Financial Institutions (Fis) and TSPs (Telecommunications Service Providers) with transparent coordination in the event of financial frauds committed by improper use of telecommunications resources, ”the DoT said in the notice.

In addition, the ministry plans to permanently suspend identifiers and cell phone numbers. The ministry also said it will create separate units to monitor fraud. The ministry will set up a telecommunications analysis and data intelligence unit.

These agencies are supposed to coordinate with all ministries so that they can control fraud related to telecommunications services, including the portability of SIM cards and mobile numbers.

It seems that scams have found new ways to trick people through telecom services despite TRAI and DoT being so active. However, we believe that the new agencies suggested by the DoT are likely to help customers of these shippers. In addition, we expect the new agencies to impose heavy penalties on these shippers.
