WhatsApp may soon allow you to report spam messages; Know everything
WhatsApp users will soon be able to report specific messages on the platform in addition to the existing option to report individuals and businesses on a whole chat basis. WhatsApp is currently testing new features with beta users on iPhone and Android devices. This feature is important because spam messages are common on WhatsApp despite the individuals reporting features.
The WABetaInfo app tracker reported that the beta versions of WhatsApp for iOS 220.127.116.11 and 18.104.22.168 have the ability to allow users to report specific messages on the platform. The app will only forward the reported message to WhatsApp and notify the sender of the report.
While it’s not clear how WhatsApp will do this if it reads recent chat messages to report them, a report from ProRepublica suggests some moderation will be done.
The new report process is not like that of the existing report user where the last five messages are reported. Here, when a user taps on a message, the report option appears with Star, Reply, Forward, Copy, and Delete. The feature is now available for beta users. The feature is apparently also available for recent beta versions of WhatsApp. The feature would be available on WhatsApp for Android beta 22.214.171.124 for a large number of beta testers, although some on the previous 126.96.36.199 version are also able to spot it on their phones.
WhatsApp has also made several attempts to improve its reporting feature to overcome abuse and spam messages, but attackers and spammers are still quite prevalent on the platform.
